Based in Barcelona, RACC-ACASA is the most important motoring association in Spain with around 1 million members. In addition to insurance and road assistance, the institution promotes research, education and dissemination activities aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life regarding environmental impact of mobility, road safety and intelligent transport systems (ITS).

We have been involved in more than 25 EC projects over the past 10 years, and already awarded with our first H2020 project on intelligent transport systems. Among the different activities that we have carried out, we are specialists in:

  • Collecting end-user’s requirements and opinions thanks to our large membership in Spain and our European club network.
  • We own a database of real-time traffic information with average speeds and travel times for more than 12 countries in Europe, which enables us to identify and register congestion in the main European road network. We get this data through crowdsourcing (navigation devices, apps, connected fleets, road sensors, etc.),
  • Definition of policies for a sustainable mobility, based on technical evidence, definition of transport policy at urban level, including fiscal incentives for fleet renewal, city centre access restriction, parking policy based on vehicle emissions, etc.
  • Validation of studies (field work for data collection) and impact assessment of policies, including cost-benefit analysis of different scenarios.

Dissemination and communication activities: thanks to our independent organisation status, RACC carries out several press releases and participates in several conferences on the topic of mobility and safety. Also, RACC organizes expert workshops and publishes technical articles for consumers in its monthly magazine (500,000 households in Spain).

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020
research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 815189.
